Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed52c34e72.10398613.jpg[/img] Welcome to the most exclusive gala of the year! The most renowned luxury hoarders have already arrived, eager to exchange irresistible offers... and screw each other over to build the best collection of all. We were just waiting for you to start! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerIn *The Great Split,* your goal is to create the most prestigious collection of riches. Each round, each player will split their hand into two groups of cards and give them to an opponent, who must keep one group and return the other. Everyone will then play their cards to move up on various tracks on the board.2maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerAt a couple points throughout the game (as well as at the end), everyone's collections will be *scored.* [green]Whoever has the most prestige wins![/green]3maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerThere are [red]*six rounds*[/red] in a game. [blue]*This marker*[/blue] indicates the current round. [blue]Each round has 5 steps:[/blue] • *Deal* cards to each player. • *Split* and choose groups of cards. • *Resolve* cards. • *Market.* • *End of round.*4tgs-roundMarker000tgs-roundMarker 2 tgs-marketTile1 1 tgs-marketTile2 1 tgs-marketTile3 1 tgs-marketTile4 1 tgs-marketTile5 1 tgs-marketTile6 1
Nekonyancer[blue]*Step 1: Deal.*[/blue]---BGA deals one card to each player. The *Roman Numeral* above the [blue]*Round marker*[/blue] shows what level of card is dealt in each round. Higher level cards are more valuable. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed52e2ffd9.37352103.jpg[/img] Since this is a *2-player game,* BGA also dealt a 2nd card that is one level below the first card.5maintitlebar_content000tgs-roundMarker 2
NekonyancerBGA already dealt the new cards for the first round and helpfully wrote [red]*New!*[/red] in the corners. We also started the game with [blue]*four Level I cards,*[/blue] so we currently have a total of *6* cards in our hand.6tgs-card35000tgs-card13 2 tgs-card14 2 tgs-card29 2 tgs-card15 2 tgs-card35 1 tgs-card8 1
NekonyancerJust below the Roman Numeral, you can see the *maximum hand size* in each round. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed5310be20.52552538.jpg[/img] This round, the limit is *5,* so we'll have to discard 1 card.7maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer*Select this card! Then click on "Discard selected cards" at the top!*8tgs-card13010tgs-card13 16
Nekonyancer[blue]*Step 2: Split.*[/blue]---Each player must now split their hand into two groups. Those cards will then be tucked into a wallet and passed to our opponent. [blue]To move cards between groups, all we have to do is click on them.[/blue]1maintitlebar_content6562a90b2f62d00
Nekonyancer*Click on the indicated cards.* Your two groups should now look like this: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed5336ebe4.73343493.jpg[/img] *Click on "Confirm" at the top!*2tgs-split-left6562a90b2f62d10tgs-card8 16 tgs-card15 16
NekonyancerHere are the cards we got from our opponent's wallet! We have to choose one group to keep. We'll return the other one. *Click on the indicated button at the top to keep the left group!*1tgs-split-left-cards6562aa0c7dd7410tgs-button0 16
NekonyancerWe got the unchosen cards back from our opponent, leaving us with this hand. [blue]*Step 3: Resolve cards.*[/blue]---Now we have to play each card to advance on whatever track is indicated on the card. Alternatively, we can sell each card for *1 Prestige* (Victory Point, represented by stars) or 1 step on the *Gold track.*1tgs-hand-cards6562aa4fbbed000
NekonyancerWe'll go through these cards one at a time. Blue gems represent topazes. *Click on the [blue]topaz card's[/blue] play button!* You should now be able to see three options at the top of the screen: topaz, gold, or 1 prestige. *Click on the Topaz button, then continue.*2tgs-hand-cards6562aa4fbbed000tgs-card7 2 tgs-buttonPlay7 16
Nekonyancer*Good!* We moved up one space on our [blue]*Topaz track.*[/blue]3tgs-board-trackMarker-track3-119413546562aa4fbbed000tgs-board-trackMarker-track3-11941354 2
NekonyancerDid you notice that we had already advanced on [red]*a few other tracks?*[/red] This is because of our [blue]*Character Tile.*[/blue] Each player has a different character, and thus a different set of initial advancements.4tgs-character-119413546562aa4fbbed000tgs-board-trackMarker-track1-11941354 1 tgs-board-trackMarker-track2-11941354 1 tgs-board-trackMarker-track6-11941354 1 tgs-board-trackMarker-track7-11941354 1 tgs-character-11941354 2 tgs-character-92143487 2
Nekonyancer*Next, play [red]this[/red] card.* There's no point selling this card for 1 gold or 1 Prestige because playing it normally - for 1 gold AND 1 prestige - is better in every way.5tgs-hand-cards6562aa4fbbed000tgs-card25 1 tgs-buttonPlay25 16
NekonyancerThe [red]*next card*[/red] features a *seal* with ribbons of 3 different colors. These colors refer to different seal tracks. We can choose any of those colored tracks to advance on. *Play [red]this card[/red] and advance on the [red]gold track.[/red]* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed53652875.29405029.jpg[/img]6tgs-hand-cards6562aa4fbbed000tgs-card17 6 tgs-buttonPlay17 16
NekonyancerLet's take a closer look at the seal tracks. Each one has icons on it that will let you advance for free on its corresponding resource track. For example, if we advance just one more space on the Gold Seal track, we'll trigger an icon and advance on the Gold track too. *Use the [red]other Seal card[/red] to advance on the Gold Seal track!*7tgs-board-trackMarker-track10-119413546562aa4fbbed000tgs-card15 6 tgs-buttonPlay15 16
Nekonyancer*Great!* BGA automatically accounted for our Gold track advancement. [red]*The next card*[/red] doesn't need an explanation. *Go ahead and play it for 2 emeralds.*8tgs-board-trackMarker-track5-119413546562aa4fbbed000tgs-card35 6 tgs-buttonPlay35 16
NekonyancerThere's one card left: the [red]*splitter*[/red] card. This card sits in each player's wallet to set the two groups of cards apart. It cannot be discarded. When we play it, we can advance one space on any track! [blue]Hmm... which track should we advance on?[/blue]9tgs-card1056562aa4fbbed000tgs-card105 6
NekonyancerWell, we're one space away from an icon on the Gold track! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed538dd475.30136108.jpg[/img] [green]If we reach it, we can move up 2 spaces on any track![/green] *Use the [red]Splitter[/red] to advance on the Gold track. Then use the Gold track's bonus to advance on the [blue]Topaz track.[/blue]*10tgs-board-trackMarker-track5-119413546562aa4fbbed000tgs-card105 6 tgs-buttonPlay105 16
NekonyancerOkay, we played all our cards, so that's the end of the *Resolve* step! [blue]*Step 4: Market*[/blue]---Whichever [red]*Market tile*[/red] is under the round marker will be flipped over, advancing the [green]*Market slider*[/green] by 0-4 spaces. I'll explain what it does soon.13tgs-marketTile46562aa4fbbed000tgs-artTracker 3 tgs-marketTile1 1 tgs-marketTile2 1 tgs-marketTile3 1 tgs-marketTile4 1 tgs-marketTile5 1 tgs-marketTile6 1
Nekonyancer[blue]*Step 5: End of Round.*[/blue]---The [red]*Track Marker*[/red] will advance. Whenever it passes a brown line, it triggers a [green]*Scoring Phase.*[/green] I'll explain more about scoring in a second.1tgs-roundMarker6562aaabe0bec00tgs-roundMarker 1 tgs-scoringTile0 3 tgs-scoringTile1 3 tgs-scoringTile2 3 tgs-scoringTile3 3
Nekonyancer*Okay, that was one complete round!* Each player was dealt [red]*2 new cards*[/red] for Step 1 of the next round. Remember, with more than 2 players, each player will only get 1 new card each round.2tgs-card326562aaabe5d2600tgs-card32 6 tgs-card12 6
NekonyancerThe other five rounds are pretty much the same as the first. Now I have to explain the most complicated part: [red]*scoring.*[/red]3maintitlebar_content6562aaabe5d2600
NekonyancerThe [red]*Tome*[/red] track is simple. Some slots on the track have prestige under them. When this track is scored, we'll gain prestige equal to the highest number we've reached. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed53ae2ee8.11215542.jpg[/img] [blue]In this example, we would score 9 prestige.[/blue]5tgs-board-trackMarker-track1-119413546562aaabe5d2600tgs-board-trackMarker-track1-11941354 1
NekonyancerThe [red]*artwork*[/red] track is a little more complicated. Each player has a [blue]*marker*[/blue] here showing how high they are on the artwork track. When the track is scored, each player will score however much prestige their slot on the artwork track is pointing to.6tgs-marketMarker-921434876562aaabe5d2600tgs-marketMarker-11941354 2 tgs-marketMarker-92143487 2 tgs-board-trackMarker-track2-11941354 1
NekonyancerIf the artwork track was somehow scored right now, [blue]*we*[/blue] would earn *10* prestige. [red]*Our opponent*[/red] would earn *13.* Keep in mind that the [green]*Market slider*[/green] will move at the end of each round, changing how much players will score from artwork!7tgs-marketMarker-921434876562aaabe5d2600tgs-artTracker 3 tgs-marketMarker-11941354 2 tgs-marketMarker-92143487 1
NekonyancerTopazes and Emeralds go hand in hand. When they are scored, each player scores prestige equal to the level of the *lower* track. [green]Right now, we are lower on the Emerald track. If scored, we would gain 2 prestige.[/green]8tgs-board-trackMarker-track3-119413546562aaabe5d2600
Nekonyancer[red]*These four resource tracks*[/red] will be scored *twice* throughout the game - once in the [blue]*middle,*[/blue] and once at the end.9tgs-board6562aaabe5d2600tgs-scoringTile0 2 tgs-scoringTile1 2 tgs-scoringTile2 2 tgs-scoringTile3 2 tgs-board-trackMarker-track1-11941354 1 tgs-board-trackMarker-track2-11941354 1 tgs-board-trackMarker-track3-11941354 1 tgs-board-trackMarker-track4-11941354 1
NekonyancerThe fifth resource track - [green]*Gold*[/green] - is never scored on its own. It mostly serves to bolster other tracks through icons. However, *all* the resource tracks have an associated Seal track. These tracks only score once, at the end of the game.10tgs-board-trackMarker-track5-119413546562aaabe5d2600tgs-board-trackMarker-track5-11941354 3
NekonyancerTo score a Seal track, BGA will count the number of icons reached on the associated resource track and add any relevant icons on the player's [blue]*character tile.*[/blue] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed53cbb473.13172033.jpg[/img] If we were here on the Tome track, we'd have *4 icons* - 3 from the track, and 1 from our character tile.11tgs-board-trackMarker-track6-119413546562aaabe5d2600tgs-character-11941354 2 tgs-character-92143487 2
NekonyancerBGA will then multiply the number of icons by the highest number of *stars* reached on the associated Seal track. If we maxed out [red]*this track,*[/red] we would score [green]16 prestige[/green] (4 icons x 4 stars).12tgs-board-trackMarker-track6-119413546562aaabe5d2600tgs-board-trackMarker-track6-11941354 1
Nekonyancer*Okay, that's it!* [green]At the end of the sixth round, whoever has the most prestige wins![/green] If there's a tie, the victory is... *split.* :) 13maintitlebar_content6562aaabe5d2600
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for The Great Split!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *Kayvon* and *Mogri* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D14maintitlebar_content6562aaabe5d2600
