Flor-wDuring this quick tutorial, I will teach you how to play *Res Arcana* in about 10 minutes. I will focus on the rules of the game and the BGA interface. !!! Due to a bug, I can't let you take any in-game actions. Flor-wWith the game set up and ready to play, let's look at the different components. 4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

Flor-wFirst, let's look at our [red]Mage[/red] card. Every mage has a *Name*, a *Power* and possibly a *Collect Ability*. [img]https://snipboard.io/nAqY87.jpg[/img]58

Flor-wNext, we have the [red]Artifact[/red] cards that we can craft. Apart from a name, power, and collect ability, they also have a *Placement Cost* in the top left corner, a possible *Point Value* and/or a *Type* in the top right corner. [img]https://snipboard.io/bjNewL.jpg[/img]635

Flor-wAt the start of the game, we are dealt *8 Artifact Cards*. These will never change during the game. We won't gain new ones or remove them from your deck. We have [red]3 cards in your hand[/red] and [blue]5 in our deck[/blue]. We can check our deck before it gets shuffled. By clicking on our mage, we show that you are ready. For now, just click on *Continue*.7player_drafted

Flor-wAt the start of the game and at the end of every round, you have to choose a [red]Magic Item[/red] from the supply. These will either give you a Collect Ability or Power. Click on *Continue* and we will select the [blue]Research[/blue] item.277

Flor-wNext, we have the [red]Monument[/red] cards. There are a face-down deck and two face-up cards. All monuments cost *4 Gold Essence*. [img]https://snipboard.io/ADCY3s.jpg[/img]1monumentdeck

Flor-wFinally, there are the [red]5 Places of Power[/red]. These will not refill during the game. Only one player can claim each of them.221

Flor-wNow, the *first round* has started. The first thing to do is to *Collect Essences* from the cards in our play area. At this moment, only our [red]Seer Mage[/red] has a *Collect Ability*, so we collect one *Blue Calm Essence*.1playerblk_86583973

Flor-wOur opponent, on the other hand, chose a *Magic Item* with a *Collect Ability*. The [green]Death/Life[/green] item lets them choose a *Black Death Essence* or a *Green Life Essence*. They will also receive a *Red Elan Essence* from the [red]Duelist Mage[/red]2playerblk_84879181

Flor-wOn every turn, you can choose 1 of these 5 actions: 1. Play an Artifact from your hand 2. Claim a Monument or Place of Power 3. Discard a card to receive 1 Gold or 2 Non-Gold Essences 4. Use a Power on a straightened component 5. Pass for the remainder of the round2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

Flor-wThe opponent made the first move. They discarded a card to take *2 Non-Gold Essences*.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

Flor-wLet's start our turn by using the Power of our [red]Seer Mage[/red]. This will allow us to arrange the top three cards of our deck. Normally you would *click on the Seer* and choose *My Draw Pile* in the upper menu. For now, you can *Continue*48

Flor-wAs a cost to use the Power, it shows that we need to [red]turn the card[/red]. This means that we won't be able to activate it again this round. [img]https://snipboard.io/tnhT9w.jpg[/img]18

Flor-wNow, let's order the three cards. Select the cards to put them on your deck in order from top to bottom. Click on the *Fire Dragon* first, second on the *Dwarven Pickaxe*, and then on the *Dancing Sword*. To finish the move, click on *Continue*. [tip] If you want to change the order, you can select *Start Over*243

Flor-wLet's activate our [red]Research[/red] item to draw the Dragon we put on top of our deck. The activate the action, we will need to *turn the card* and *pay 1 essence*. Flor-wNotice that *Chalice of Life* and *Vault* have a blue pulsating border, while *Flaming Pit* and *Fire Dragon* have a purple pulsating border. The blue border means that we currently have the Essences to play the card.1player_hand_86583973

Flor-wLet's discard our *Fire Dragon* to gain a *Gold Essence*. To do this, *click on the card*. Next, we see that the discard pile in our play area has a yellow border. Click on it to discard *Fire Dragon*. Finally, we choose *1 Gold Essence* and click continue.248

Flor-wThe *Monuments* and *Places of Power* are always available to buy. Since our opponent had enough Essences to buy [red]Dragon's Lair[/red], he went ahead and snatched it. We won't be able to buy this card anymore. 121

Flor-wLet's continue with our game. We now have enough Essences to buy both our [red]Vault[/red] and [blue]Chalice of Life[/blue]. This turn, we will play the [red]Vault[/red]. *Click on it* and we see that we get to option to put it into play. We do this by *clicking on the yellow area* in our play area. Choose the *Red Elan Essence* to play Vault and continue.1player_hand

Flor-wNow, we will play [blue]Chalice of Life[/blue], the same way we played [red]Vault[/red] in the previous turn.135

Flor-wOur opponent has passed. Since they are the first player to pass, they will receive the first player marker. It's important to note that this is worth 1VP. [img]https://snipboard.io/f3AhQD.jpg[/img]1board_passed_first

Flor-wNow that we're talking about VP anyway, let's talk about the end of the game. *The game ends* if at least one player has *10 or more VP* at the end of a round. *The player with the most VP wins.* [tip] In case of a tie, the player with the most Essences wins (Gold counts double). If it's still a tie, the players will share the victory.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

Flor-wLet's continue the round. Since we're the only active player left, we can continue playing until we pass. First, we will use our [red]Vault[/red] to put a *Gold Essence* on it. This will enable the Collect Ability next round.367

Flor-wNow, we will discard our Flaming Pit to gain *2 Blue Calm Essences*.149

Flor-wFinally, we activate our [blue]Chalice of Life[/blue]. Note that the Power that we're using does not require us to turn the card. We can activate this ability as many times as long as the card is straightened.135

Flor-wLet's look at the second power of our [blue]Chalice of Life[/blue]. [img]https://snipboard.io/vhqj28.jpg[/img] There are certain "Take That" powers that will hurt other players. If we look at our [red]Fire Dragon[/red] in our discard pile below, we will see one of those powers. They always tell players to lose *Green Life Essence*. Our [blue]Chalice of Life[/blue] power lets us ignore this attack.135

Flor-wTo finish our turn, we will *Pass* as well. When passing two things will happen: 1. We draw the top card from our deck. 2. We choose a new [red]Magic Item[/red] from the available pool and return the old one. We will choose [blue]Calm/Elan[/blue] and return our [green]Research[/green]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

Flor-wNext, since all players have passed, the game checks for victory. No player has 10 or more VP, so we continue to round 2.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

Flor-wAt the start of round 2, we will once again Collect Essences. Our [blue]Calm/Elan[/blue] gives us a choice. We will choose a *Red Elan Essence*. Next, we are asked if we want to collect the *Gold Essence* on our [red]Vault[/red]. Let's keep it there so we can activate the special Collect Ability and receive a Blue Calm and Red Elan Essence.
