*Linkage* is an abstract 2-player game by Ethan Larson!
Unfortunately, the interactive elements of this game won't work correctly in tutorial mode, but we can still learn this great game!
[green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer[blue]The two players have different goals:[/blue] one player, called *"Fewer,"* needs to keep the number of color groups low, while the other player, called *"More,"* needs to make the number of color groups high.
[green][tip] A color group refers to any set of 1 or more pieces of the same color that are connected vertically or horizontally.[/green]2maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerEach turn, players will select a *[blue]2x1 colored tile[/blue]* and place it somewhere on the board. Once no more moves can be made, the number of color groups on the board is counted.
- If there are *12 or more* color groups, the *more* player wins!
- If there are *11 or fewer* color groups, the *fewer* player wins!
[red]Now let's dive into a game to see the rules in action![/red]3maintitlebar_content000stockHolder_blue 7 stockHolder_white 7 stockHolder_red 7 stockHolder_yellow 7
NekonyancerWe'll be playing as *fewer,* and our opponent will be *more.* You can see this in the [blue]*player information panels!*[/blue]
The *more* player always goes first.5player_board_92143487000player_board_11941354 7 player_board_92143487 7
NekonyancerHe placed a blue tile right in the corner! A green token was placed on it to show that this is the most recently placed tile.
Why is this important?
[blue]Because the next player *cannot* place a tile *adjacent* to the previously placed tile![/blue]1piece_0_562c6cc98de2e900piece_0_5 12
NekonyancerIt's our turn now, and as the *fewer* player, we should try to connect tiles of the same color, making fewer color groups overall.
*First, let's select a horizontal blue tile.*
*Then place it near the previously placed tile,* like so:

Finally, you'd normally click on "Confirm" at the top, but we'll *use the continue button* in this tutorial.2player_name_1194135462c6cc98de2e900possible_move_1_4 18 stockHolder_blue 17
NekonyancerAs you can see, the green token and the Xs shifted over to reflect the most recently placed tile!1piece_1_462c6ccad6b85a00
NekonyancerNow we can safely connect the existing blue tiles!
*Select a vertical blue tile.*
*Place it so that it connects the other two blue tiles,* like so:
[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ecb25cd5a9.59814452.jpg[/img]
*Then click on "Continue."*1player_name_1194135462c6ccbc7b56b00possible_move_0_4 18 unplayed_piece_v_blue 17
Nekonyancer*Excellent.* All three blue tiles merged together into one color group. [red]*This number in the corner*[/red] will tell you how many color groups are on the board.
I'll skip forward a little now, so you can see how the game develops...1colourGroupsCounter62c6cccd21f6d00colourGroupsCounter 6
NekonyancerThat's probably far enough for you to get an idea.
[blue]There are just a few more things I have to mention:[/blue]
*1.* Our placements seem to have made a little hole here. Since all the tiles are 2x1, and tiles cannot overlap with each other, this hole can never be filled!1space_1_562c6cd3326aa500space_1_5 11
Nekonyancer*2.* [red]*This black token in the middle*[/red] indicates that no one can place a tile on that space.
*3.* If a player has no legal move *because of the location of the previously placed tile,* the tile is removed and the player skips their turn. Here's an example:

Nekonyancer[blue]Once no more moves can be made[/blue] (because of space, not because of the green token), [blue]the game is over![/blue]
Remember, if there are *11 or fewer* color groups, the *fewer* player wins!
If there are *12 or more* color groups, the *more* player wins!3player_name_1194135462c6cd3326aa500
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Linkage!*[/blue]
