JagzeWelcome to *Ice and the Sky* tutorial!
Ice and the Sky (La Glace et le Ciel) is a cooperative game where you need to balance the ecosystem by achieving targets (tasks) while preventing the ice from melting.
We know the effects of climate change and global warming, don't we?

Jagze*GOAL OF THE GAME*
The goal of the game is to score the highest as possible by achieving targets while keeping the Carbon Dioxide concentration as low as possible.
Scoring will be discussed at the near end of this tutorial.

JagzeThis game is played with three generations.
Every round, each person is assigned a target. One numerical value, and one direction (West, North or East) or Element (Air, Earth or Water).
You can see all of the other players' target except yours, and we need to help them deduce what their target is.
To help us deduce, the target values can only be:
3, 4, 4, 5, 5 or 6.3identification_target_85603582000
JagzeOn each generation, 12 cards are also evenly distributed between players (0-3 valued cards from each element), 3 of which contain [red]*Carbon Dioxide*[/red] (the red molecule at top of the white 1 card and blue 2 in your hand)
So in a 2 player game, each player will get 6 cards.
4hand_wrap_89410984000
JagzeIt is important to pay attention on the *concentration of [red]CO2[/red]* - if kept uncovered at the end of the generation or round, every molecule will decrease our ice value by 1, and if the ice level is 0, it becomes melted, causing us to lose the game!
page 5 of 195CO2_wrap000
JagzeThis is the starting set-up. Such *value* is determined by adding the total of the row (for element) or column (direction). It starts with all 2 of them.
Sorry for the kind of long explanation. With that, let's start the game!6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
JagzeFrafa placed a Water 0 card which do not add value.
Maybe they are implicating that our target is water or north? We don't know.
On your turn, you just place a card. Pretty simple right? But there are restrictions:
> Cards can be only placed in it's row. For example, water cards can be only placed on water cards' row.
> Before covering the card to change value, that row must be filled first.
After placing a card, other players will validate whether your target is achieved or not. (On BGA, that is done automatically!)1card_9623da02c27c8000
JagzeLet us help frafa achieve their target. Let's place a card that we think that can achieve their target.
Remember that you can only place Air (white) cards in this row. Frafa's target can be found on the player panel.
*Action: [red]Click on the correct card, the highlighted box, and "Play card" button on the top.[/red]*2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment623da02c27c8010card_space_2_1 6
JagzeWith that action, frafa's target is now achieved. That should deduce that their target is either *Air 4* or [red]*North 4 (N4)* [/red].
We should let them know about their target, or else there is a high chance that they play wrong cards!
!!! Even if both of our targets is achieved, we should play the remaining cards for the round to end.

JagzeWe should also play cards that contain CO2 early so we can cover those later. You know what to do.
*Action: [red]Play a card that adds CO2.[/red]*1card_space_1_1623da04c9a09610card_space_1_1 2
JagzeDid I just say to add CO2?
Oh, sorry. That action made the concentration of CO2 higher.. if we do nothing, that would decrease our ice level!
BUT frafa should now know that their target is surely N4, since the other possibility, which is Air 4, was changed into Air 5, but it is still shown that their target is still achieved!1level_wrap623da0538daa800
JagzeFrafa played water 1 here, [green]*achieving*[/green] our target, but [red]*invalidated*[/red] theirs. By placing that, we should know our target now - which is [blue]*water 6!*[/blue]
(It cannot be North 5 since frafa has the north...)
That further proves that North 4 is their target.1card_4623da05d7b08800
JagzeSince you mastered how to play cards, we will skip for a bit.

JagzeWe have no choice but to play this card, keeping our target, while knowing that frafa has no water cards now. This is bad for now.
Again, controlling the CO2 concentration is VERY important in this game. Keep CO2 level as low as possible.1card_8623da0aa609c200
JagzeThe current concentration of CO2 is now 2. Again, as I said, we should make this as low as possible. These gases, if not stopped, will decrease our ice level at the end of the round.
*Action: [red]Cover one of the carbon dioxide cards by placing your card on top of it.[/red]*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment623da0bbc03bb10
JagzeVery good.
By covering the 1 with CO2 with our 3, the molecule there is gone, thus reducing concentration to 1.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment623da0cb0930c00
JagzeWe played all of our cards, so score must be updated now!
We have still 1 CO2 uncovered on board, so ice level decreased by one.
Now let's go to the scoring system.
The score is like this:
*([blue]Plus 1[/blue] for every achieved target, [red]minus 1[/red] for every unachieved target) times the ice level.*
We have now a total score of 2 x (1-1) = 0. We have to do better next time.
1score_wrap623da10cdd21b00
JagzeThe game ends in defeat if the sky score (total score) is 0 or less at the end of the game, or if ice level is 0 or below.
And oh by the way, when new generation starts, new deck of cards is dealt, new targets are assigned, and the cards played on last round still remains there.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment623da10cdd21b00
JagzeAnd finally, there are 3 modes in this game:
> *Junior* - Play without CO2 and ice level. Only the sky score.
> *Normal* - mode in this tutorial
> *Expert* - really, you want more challenge? It adds one CH4 in addition to those CO2.
Young future generation variant allows you to see all of players' cards.
And that would be all for this game, I hope you will have fun at this interesting coop game!3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment623da10cdd21b00
