Rules summary
TACTA
TACTA is a game about spatial awareness and strategic card placement. Protect your cards and attack your opponents to have the most dots at the end of the game!
Setup
The Starting Card is placed at the center of the table. It has no dots and places to play any card.
Each player gets a deck of two-sided TACTA cards. You may not look through your deck and must only play the top or bottom card. (The top and bottom cards are referred to from here on as "outermost cards".)
The Cards
Each TACTA card has a shape and number in the center and various edge shapes on the outside.
The shape in the center is the card's suit. It isn't used in the base game but is important for alternate ways to play.
The number in the center is the card's value. It is the total number of dots on the card.
The edge shapes are used to connect cards together. Two cards may only touch if their edge shapes line up. (Small touches are fine, but don't cover the other card's white line.)
Edge shapes may or may not have dots on them.
Play
The player with the lowest value on either outermost card goes first. If there is a tie, the player with the lowest sum of values on their outermost cards goes first.
Play continues clockwise from there.
On your turn, play one of your outermost cards in such a way that one of its edge shapes covers another card's edge shape perfectly.
Follow the Do's and Don'ts when playing a card.
Do's
You can flip or rotate the card.
Play a card to cover another card's matching edge shape. Whether or not either card has dots on it is irrelevant.
If you have no legal moves, you may place your card anywhere that doesn't touch another card. (NOT IMPLEMENTED ON BGA YET)
Connect to only one card per turn.
Don'ts
Cover an edge shape that doesn't align perfectly.
Cover an edge shape in a way that breaks the outline of the card underneath.
Connect to more than one card at a time.
Cover a non-matching edge shape.
Remove, rearrange, or move a legally-placed card.
End of Game
Once everyone has run out of cards, the game ends.
Everyone counts how many dots on their colored cards are visible. This becomes your score.
The player with the highest score wins! If players are tied for the win, the win is shared.
BGA Alternate Ways to Play
- Limited Space: Play 3 rounds, each with one suit. Add up your scores for each round to determine the winner.
- Quick Round: Play with one or two suits.
- Sabotage: Play with two suits. You pick a suit to play with, then you pass the other suit to the player on your left.
You play with the cards you kept and the cards the player to your right gave you, but you still score your colored cards.
