At the beginning of each hand, the cards are dealt to the players and then a card is turned over to start the discard pile. The game log notes only that "A new hand is dealt." For players other than the start player, it is easy to miss that first discard (especially as the game loads for the first hand) because it is often quickly covered by the first card discarded by a player. And there is no easy way to review that information, which is useful to know what decision the start player made, and the fact of that card being in the discard pile. There should be either a separate note in the game log or perhaps the line "A new hand is dealt" should say something like "A new hand is dealt and 2 is the first card."
