Don't forget that you can only use card of the right faction (German/Pact/Soviet).

I used Barbarossa to attack, and am mousing over Panzergrenediers in my hand so you can see I have a German advance card.
"I had an advance card on hand, but the game displayed message "you don't have an advance card""
changed to
"Add a general mud indicator"
So rejected to not have a duplicate.
